There are alternatives to propecia including avodart (dutasteride), topical minoxidil, growth factors and PRP.  Some of these treatments are proven effective and others are evolving.  They may be worth looking into.  The 5alpha reductase inhibitors affect DHT which in some patients is thought to contribute to gynecomastia.  A plastic surgeon can perform a history and physical exam to determine if the gynecomastia can be removed with excision and liposuction.  The type and amount of tissue will help to better understand how permanent the correction may be.  That being said any surgical correction will make a patient better off than they would with no correction at all.
