Keloid Incidence from Ablative Facial Laser?

Hi, I am a 31 year old Southeast Asian Female. I have a history of keloid formation (my mother has them) and I have a small one on my chest. I recently received ablative facial laser (Lucas machine) on 1x1cm spot on my right cheek. From my perspective, the procedure was well-executed with no complications. I am very worried that it will develop into a keloid. What are the chances of keloid formation, and what can I do to minimise this?

Keloids are indeed more common in individuals with a family history of them, and certain ethnicities, including Southeast Asians, are at a higher risk. However, it's important to note that keloid formation on the facial area, particularly on the cheek, is less common compared to other parts of the body such as the chest.While any skin injury, including those from laser treatments, has the potential to cause keloid formation, the likelihood in your case is relatively low given the location on your face. However, vigilant monitoring of the healing process is crucial.
To minimize the risk, here are some steps you can take:1. Ensure the treated area is kept clean and moisturized.2. Avoid sun exposure on the treated area as it can trigger inflammation and potentially increase the risk of keloid formation.3. Keep a close watch on the healing process. If you notice any signs of abnormal scarring, please contact us immediately.4. In some cases, preventative measures such as the use of silicone sheets or gels, corticosteroid creams, or injectable treatments can be considered.
