Ablative Erbium For Skin and Texture Damage? (Photo)

Question

Previously had smooth wonderful skin and underwent fractional Co2 to address lines and light ice pick scarring on temples. I believe provider used too much energy and their reactive post skincare caused dermatitis during healing leading to damaged skin and orange peel texture. Would a full phase erbium address these issues to smooth out the dermis, address the dimpling, and allow all brand new skin to replace the waxy damaged skin? Perhaps like Contour TRL?

Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery.

You might consider a fractional laser that leaves some of the pilosebaceous units in tact.  This leaves a more natural result with less waxy appearance.

For uneven skin texture, usually a combination of contour TRL and profractional are used to provide partial improvement. Others use a combination of profractional, profractional xc and microlaser peel. Another option is dermabrasion. When evaluated in person, the provider will also be able to assess whether overactive sebaceous glands in the skin are contributing as it can benefit from microbotox and/or topical steroids.
