5 days post op, I have hardness after Breast Augmentation. Is this normal?

It is completely normal for you to feel tightness several days after breast augmentation.  Oftentimes, the implants will feel very hard, but rest assured that with time everything will soften up!  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your question. Depending on your frame the large implant size is probably tight in the pocket. This will take some time to loosen up. As long as both breasts are similar in size then it should be okay. Because the implant is above the muscle it is more palpable and may also contribute to the feeling of firmness. Depending on the type of implant, the feel may be more or less firm. If you are concerned or there are changes then you should contact your surgeon. Best of Luck!

Thank you for your question. Everything that you are describing is to be expected at only 5 days post op from a breast augmentation. Over the next few weeks, your breasts will soften as the muscles and tissues relax to accommodate the implants. You will begin to notice less fullness in the upper pole of the breast and more fullness in the lower pole. The feeling of pressure in the chest is also to be expected and will dissipate as the breasts relax. I urge you to follow up with your Plastic Surgeon for scheduled post op check-ups, and to call if you have concerns between appointments.

At five days after breast augmentation the breasts are usually tight and swollen. They will take several months to settle down. Best of luck.

First of all thank you for the question.  Firmness is normal due to swelling.  The swelling will slowly resolve over the next 6-8 weeks. You should notice in the next few weeks your breasts becoming softer and loosening up.  If you still have concerns I would recommend following up with your Plastic surgeon.  Best of Luck.

It is normal for the breasts to feel firm and tight the first few weeks after breast augmentation. Although some swelling occurs, this tightness is primarily due to the breast envelope not yet having stretched to accomodate the new volume. Yes, firmness of the breast is normal.  This is due to swelling.   This must be differentiated from a hematoma which would be painful, with bruising and usually on one side only.   The swelling may take up to 6 weeks or longer to resolve.  Good luck.  Donald R. Nunn MD  Atlanta Plastic Surgeon.
