Hello! Yes, it sounds like the reaction could be to the numbing cream. There are typically 3 different numbing agents in the compounded BLT cream, as well as the carrier substance, and any of these could be causing the problem. If you can figure out with an allergist which of these is the culprit your doctor can order a custom batch of the numbing cream that does not contain the offending agent for you to use for all future procedures. I would suggest finding a dermatologist to perform patch testing to determine what you may be sensitive/allergic to. I have seen several cases of patients in my clinic who have had reactions to numbing creams, particularly compounded formulations. I have seen a couple cases of individuals who had unusual swelling and redness after Vivace treatment. Patch testing did reveal the causes in these instances - be it ingredients in the numbing cream vehicle or the actual numbing agent itself.
