Will Radio Frequency destroy my face?

Heating the skin and subcutaneous tissue with electromagnetic energy is of dubious aesthetic benefit. Aggressive treatment allegedly causes deposition of collagen which implies significant thermal injury to the skin.

Thank you for your question.  There are many radiofrequency devices on the market. Some are used for non-invasive fat reduction, and some are used for skin tightening.  Some devices work better for some people than others, and for some people, no "magical device" will work and the treatment is surgical to get the results you want.If the device you used was designed to destroy fat cells in the face, then yes, you probably had fat cells that were destroyed.  If you have less fat in the face (or any area), and the skin can't contract enough, then you'll be left with loose skin and wrinkles.In general, I try to avoid any kind of "fat reduction" technique in the face, because actually ADDING volume to the face creates a smoother, more youthful appearance!  Removing tissue is usually counterproductive (except in some circumstances).I recommend you talk with the person who did the treatments about what the goals were, and why they chose the treatment they did (there may be a very good reason).  If you aren't happy with the result, and they aren't able to tell you what they can do to get the result you want, you are always able to visit somebody else for a second opinion.  You may benefit from having volume added back into your face.Best,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
