Why do I have so much pain after laparoscopic umbilical surgery?

I had laparscopic umbilical surgery nearly 4 weeks ago with I 5 incisions and have terrible pain by above belly button to the left side near the suture of the larges incision. I have pulling ripping pain. And burning pain and sensitive skin in that area for many hours after a bowel movement. I feel like something is terribly wrong but my doctor says I have to wait for six weeks before he will do a scan.

Hello, thank you for the question. We have to sort a few things here. It sounds like one of the surgical sites has affected a cutaneous or skin surface nerve, which might explain the sensitive skin and burning sensation. It could be from a scar or a suture, or both. The other issue is if you're having fevers/ chills in relation to redness over the belly button or where the repair or mesh was made. This could be a superficial infection or formation of a fluid collection. Fortunately, both have solutions. I encourage you to monitor the surgical sites and not hesitate to call the office in case you feel that things are worsening.
