I tell my patients they need to wait at least 6 weeks, or until their incision are fully healed, before they can use a sauna, steam room, pool, bathtub, hot tub, or swim in open bodies of water. I would recommend getting the "ok" from your doctor at your follow up as well before you return to using a sauna.
Lack of cleanliness, and hot temperatures of the sauna can expose you to burns if you lack sensitivity and infection if your incisions have not healed. I generally ask patients to avoid public bathing options for at least six weeks. Ask the plastic surgeon who performs your TT, Lipo, Breast Surgery, and BBL for a recommendation as he or she will know how your scar tissue is healing. I do not think plastic surgeons have embraced sauna therapy as a treatment for scars.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for your question. We usually recommend a six week waiting time before returning to vigorous activity, or the use of hot tubs, saunas, etc. This is only true however, if there have been no complications such as the wound coming apart or excessive drainage. Your surgeon is the best person to check with as he/she knows how you are healing.
This question is best answered by your surgeon as he/she is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery. Six weeks is usually a point where you could use the sauna as long as all incisions are closed and all drains removed.
Six weeks is usually the normal but I also agree with the other Doctors I would check with your surgeon to see what he / she recommends.

Seromas should be closely followed by your surgeon. If the fluid has been absorbed by the tissues around it, it cannot be drained. If it is in a pocket, it is possible to drain it. Wearing compression may help it to heal. Follow the advice of your surgeon and keep all follow up appointments.
Plastic surgery literature shows that if your BMI is 35 or greater you are at increased risk for complications for wound healing, infection, seroma formation, etc. A BMI of 30 or below will help your procedure have a lower risk and your outcome be more...
