CoolSculpting has FDA approval for fat reduction since 2010. CoolSculpting freezes the fat cells. Fat cells are more susceptible to damage by freezing than the other cells, (nerve, vessel, bone, etc.), around them. The fat cells die via a process called apoptosis, (programmed cell death). The number of fat cells are therefore reduced. This happens over a period of time, so the body is not overwhelmed with dead fat cells. The body will take these cells up, process them and excrete them, just as any other cell. The remnants are filtered through the liver, and then excreted eventually via stool. Knees can be a challenge with any modality. CoolSculpting has a specific applicator that has been used in this area with good results. We have had good experience with the skin snapping back. Each individual is different. See an experienced CoolSculpting practice, they will determine if you are a candidate. Moreover, would also consider seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, who can give advice on both CoolSculpting and Liposuction.
Rather than the CoolSmooth, which is mainly used for the thighs, the CoolMini applicator can be used on the knee area in appropriate candidates. Your physician should have many different applicators with the CoolSculpting device to find just the right fit. Please visit a board-certified dermatologist for a consultation to see if CoolMini is a good choice for you.
Thank you foryour question. There are only a few target areas that can be addressed with CoolSculpting. I would recommend seeing a board certified plastic surgeon for aCoolSculpting consultation. This way, you will be able to explain your concernsand find an option that fits your desires. An in-person assessment is alwaysbest. Regards,
The CoolSmooth applicator will not fit in that area. The CoolMini will, but you will need multiple treatments for a significant reduction. ThermiTight may be a better option for you. Make sure you see an experienced provider who has multiple options for treating the area. Best wishes.
This area is very difficult to treat because some of this is loose skin that needs to be surgically removed. However, VASER Liposuction with ThermiRF does a really good job to contour. Kybella and Thermage/Ultherapy has helped in some patients of mine. Sculpsure has been tried with initial success in my patients. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.
Thank you for your question. Coolsculpting is a very safe procedure. However, all treatments have potential side effects, although with Coolsculpting they are very unlikely to occur. Your treating physician should discuss all potential side effects and expectations before your procedure. I hope this helps! With the addition of the latest applicators #CoolSmooth and #CoolMini there is almost no area that cannot be adequately treated. Get a consultation from a practitioner with experience in all of the applicators for an assessment to see if it is safe and beneficial for your particular needs and areas. FDA continues to approve new areas and new applicators and #CoolSculpting continues to be gold standard non invasive fat reduction.
The knees are a difficult area to address with CoolSculpting. Typically, the CoolMini is best to address this area. However, multiple applicators and/or treatments may be needed. I would consult with an experienced provider who can determine if you are a good candidate. The provider will be able to use the template for the CoolMini to show you what areas can be treated with a single applicator.
Usually a cool mini may be used to treat that area of fat near the knee. However, it's best to go in and have a consultation so a provider can use a template to see if that applicator is appropriate.
Hi, This is a very difficult area to treat and it is not the typical area treated. However, It may fit the applicator and if so, then it can be treated. It will not tighten the skin and that might be an issue even if the fat is diminished in this area. See your plastic surgeon and get a direct opinion about the feasibility of treating this area.
