Can I get breast reduction with insurance and pay for lipo on my own?

I was approved for a breast reduction which I plan on getting shortly. But I want to go get another procedure at the same time which is liposuction in the back and stomach. I planned on paying for that out of pocket. Will the doctor complete the procedure if insurance is paying for the breast reduction and I'm paying for the Lipo ?

It is very common to perform liposuction at the same time as a breast reduction. Doing a breast reduction and the liposuction of the back and stomach is totally reasonable. Speaking with your plastic surgeon regarding this is definitely the next step.

Combination surgeries are very common. the drawback is the additional hospital/anesthesia\/ surgeons fees as the cosmetic component of the total operations are not covered by the health insurance! In Miami @ Baptist Hospital the additional fess would be $3,750 + the surgeons fee.

It is not uncommon to combine surgical procedures during the same anesthesia and postoperative recovery.  Assuming you are a good candidate for both procedures, this combined approach can offer multiple benefits with only one anesthesia and recovery period.  However, risks can increase as operative and anesthesia times increase. Thank you for the question.  Yes, generally speaking,  these types of combination surgical procedures are done routinely.  However, you would be wise to be concerned about the safety of combination surgery; risks/possible complications do increase with increased length of surgery…  
 It is best to evaluate each patient's suitability for combination surgery on an individualized basis. During this consultation process, after a complete history and physical, the SAFETY  of combining these surgical procedures becomes of paramount importance.  Plastic surgeon, anesthesia provider, duration of surgery, surgery facility all important  considerations. Your best bet: choose your plastic surgeon very carefully; everything else including  good judgment/advice/planning, anesthesia provider and safe surgery facility will follow. Best wishes.

It is common to perform multiple procedures at the same time.  This is biologically and financially efficient.  Review the combination procedures with your surgeon: ti is important to avoid excessive OR time and to avoid procedures that interfere with each other.  As an example, tummy tucks and thigh lifts cannot be performed together since both operative fields drain to the same lymph node basins, thus leading to the potential for excessive swelling and delayed wound healing and recovery.

It is not uncommon to perform insurance-covered procedure and "cosmetic" surgery at the same time. However, the real issues are the length of operation and the amount of surgical trauma. It is safe to surmise that you will need an extensive breast reduction since insurance companies nowadays have very strict criteria for pre-approval, which you said to have received.  A problem may arise if your liposuction involves a large surface area, which you mentioned to be your back and tummy. While multiple-procedures under one surgery is convenient--since there is only one recovery period--occasionally it is better to stage them to control the surgical trauma.However, all these are just "generalizations" and should not replace the findings of in-personal consultation and physical exam.
