Why does my vein clump and why does it bulge out at times? (Photo)

My vein usually bulges out when I'm active or something but I got it checked out and my doctor said it was playing video games but if that was true, everyone at school that plays as much or more than me would have this, but I'm the only one. It's been like this for years and I don't know how it started. It's starting to concern me because now when I try to do push-ups and it bulges out, it freaks me out and I have to stop. I'm worried it's gonna pop internally or something.

What you have is an enlarged wrist vein.  These veins can enlarge when hand and forearm activity is increased because more blood is flowing through them.  Exercise and rapid hand movements can increase the blood flow. I do not think that you should have any fear of this bleeding, but if you are worried, the vein can be treated either by sclerotherapy or removal through micro incisions.

Thank you for the question and the post.If it is indeed a vein, there is no major concern if it 'pops' because bleeding will be limited.A vascular surgeon or vein surgeon needs to examine your forearm and may decide to do an ultrasound. If it is symptomatic, i.e. painful or tender, it can be treated under local anesthesia with minimal downtime. Best,Dr. Karamanoukian
