"Broken capillaries" are very common on the face and are usually treated by a vascular laser. When they are on the legs they are known as "spider veins". The gold standard treatment for leg veins is usually sclerotherapy, although laser can be used as well. I would recommend consultation with a board certified dermatologist or surgeon who is experienced in treatment of your particular vascular condition. Best wishes.
All that matter is the person is specialized in treatment. This is typically treated by lasers or sclerotherapy. Best, Dr. Emer.
Dermatologists have pioneered the treatment of "broken capillaries" on the face, using electricity and lasers. That being said, many different types of physicians are qualified to treat these vascular proliferations.Small leg veins can be treated quite easily with sclerotherapy or lasers. Many physicians perform this treatment, including Dermatologists and vascular surgeons. Many consider themselves "vein specialists", although any physician can make this claim. The treatment of smaller vessels is not complicated and requires experience and training. Just make sure to find someone who has both of those credentials. Good luck!Dr. Bader
The treatment of veins and the field of venous disease is rapidly expanding. A physician who is a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic medicine is fully qualified and dedicated to vein treatments. I would recommend that you see some one with this certification.
The discipline of phlebology is the specialization for the treatment of venous disorders. Dermatologists, vascular surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, interventional radiologists and other specialists take care of patients with spider veins, reticular veins and varicose veins. For example, I happen to be triple board certified - surgery (American Board of Surgery), cardiovascular surgery (American Board of Thoracic Surgery) and Phlebology (American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine). I also have credentials from ARDMS for Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretations (RPVI) and for imaging with Doppler Ultrasound (Registered Vascular Technologist, RVT). It means I can also perform diagnostic ultrasound imaging during the care of patients with vascular issues and have the ability to interpret such exams. The # and type of specialists who deal with facial spider veins goes even larger and would include ophthalmologists, ENT physicians, oculoplastic surgeons ... and I have even seen 1 psychiatirst (believe it or not). Vascular surgeons are trained in arterial and venous disease but usually, limit their practice to stenting arterial disease and treating aneurysms. A certified phleblogist from the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine i(ABVLM) s a physician who has added specialization in taking care of spider veins, varicose veins, etc. I recommend that not only you see an ABVLM credentialed physician from the above list, but also one who has experience in doing sclerotherapy (different types of) and has wide expertise in the use of coasmetic lasers to deal with telangiectasias (spider veins) on the face, trunk, and lower extremities. Use the physician locator on the American College of Phlebology to find a physician who is suitable and do your research.
You can safely have sclerotherapy during your menstrual period. There is no contraindication and should not be any side effects.
There are several websites that may be able to refer you to vein specialists outside of the US. Try the websites for vein directory, vein experts and the acp(American college of phlebology).
This is genetic and likely will need sclerotherapy in the future if you would like improvement cosmetically. Best, Dr. Emer.
