I live in Ontario,Canada and have had the Ideal breast implants since 2018---reconstruction after two benign lumpectomies. One seems to have deflated somewhat and I've been on a OHIP wait list since 2019, for a revision. Now I find out that the Ideal company has gone bankrupt, with its assets having been purchased by BIMINI--they plan to rename the 'Ideal' to the 'Serene'. When will these renamed structured implants be available? PS has suggested silicone (Mentor). I'm concerned of gel bleed.
Answer: IDEAL Breast Implant now available as Serene: Least complications and follow-up exams of all breast implants There are quite a few women facing similar situations and likely more to come down the road. The good news is that the new Serene Breast Implants are offered by a larger company which acquired Ideal Implant, Inc. and are now available for use. These implants provide the same sought-after advantages including a natural look and feel, no risk of silent rupture, and the lowest rate of complications of all implants (both silicone and saline). With these implants, there is no need for MRI or high-resolution ultrasound monitoring to know if your implants are intact. You only simply need to look in the mirror. In contrast, we know most women are concerned about silicone gel implant ruptures, which are silent and require FDA-recommended magnetic resonance imaging or ultrasound scans for detection. As safety and piece of mind should naturally be some of the greatest considerations when choosing a breast implant, we are proud to offer the Serene Implants for patients. Our office was among the largest users in the world of Ideal Implants and I was closely involved in the 10 year study of the Ideal Structured Breast Implants and a key FDA investigator. If you are interested, I will include a link here to the study, which was recently published by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. For anyone looking to replace their Ideal implants or learn more about Serene by Bimini Health Tech, I invite you to request a consultation, either in-person or virtual with our office in California. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss your options with you, including breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast revision. Visit us online any time: ThePacificCenter.com Dr. Larry S. Answer: Implants Just go with Mentor saline implants for your replacement. In the US, the implant company would have to get the implants approved which takes a very long time.

Answer: Gel Bleed Gel bleed, common with low or moderate cohesive gel but virtually non-existent in highly cohesive devices, is not dangerous and does not lead to capsular contracture. When performed in an evidence based best fashion, the rates of cap con are no different than with saline implants. If your concern is toxicity from silicone gel implants, keep in mind that women who feel they have systemic symptoms from their breast implants have saline implants as or more often than silicone gel. The Ideal Implant went bankrupt because it wasn't ideal, and had plenty of issues, including lack of enthusiasm from plastic surgeons who know that silicone gel implants excel in performance. Three prospective partially blind studies looking at systemic symptoms from breast implants have shown that there is no agent (toxin) that causes systemic symptoms. Comparing a group of women with implants who feel they have symptoms with women with implants who don't, and comparing both to women who never had implants but were having a breast lift, there was no difference in blood or tissue (scar capsule) levels of silicone, 20 different heavy metals, bacteria, bacterial metabolites, or immune system compounds (interleukins). Stop worrying and get silicone gel.
