Hello, i am 21 years old and my hair loss started about 1 year ago. First my hair got thinner and then the loss was visible in the front and on the top head. I started with minoxidil but lost also 100 hairs a day. I started using Finasterid (Propecia) 4 weeks ago. Since two weeks i lose more and more hair (150-200 daily), you now even can see my skin. My question is now if I shoud stop with finasteride or is this a normal "shedding" effect? My doctor told me that there is no shedding.
Answer: Finasteride.... Finasteride blocks testosterone from becoming the active hormone which causes hair loss. I suspect this is your natural male pattern balding blooming, but you should talk to your doctor about this situation. Consider minoxidil and PRP/ACell injections in the future.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

Answer: What’s going on? I can’t say what’s going on in your specific case but certainly many users of finasteride experience an initial shed for the first several months. This is not uncommon. But keep in mind there are actually many reasons for hair loss and increased shedding besides finasteride... so if things don’t improve or your concerned persist, please see a physician for review.
