Had Hydraulic acid breast filler injections 3 years ago. Is it safe to breastfeed my baby?

The only safe and FDA approved filler for use in the breast is fat. The breast is unique in that routine cancer surveillance is a regular component of breast health. Thus any changes which could alter or affect surveillance or imaging is of concern. These concerns about the distorting effect of these interventions as it relates to cancer surveillance was responsible initially for the delayed acceptance of fat.With regards to your specific question, I would not recommend non-fat filler to the breast and I would certainly not recommend breastfeeding in the setting of breast filler (especially if you feel it is extruding with lactation). As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Absolutely no filler should ever be injected into anybody's breasts. only autologous fat grafting appears to be a safe option. You should see the plastic surgeon who treated you and discuss this with them before breastfeeding your baby. Good luck from New York City
