Is it possible to retransplant hair follicles/grafts in their original place?

Question

I have had a previous hair transplant which I'm not happy with. Would it be possible to remove and transplant these grafts again in their original place/the donor area? What would the success rate be? Thanks in advance.

It is possible to move follicles from the recipient area back to the donor area. It may be difficult to know for sure that the transplanted hairs are being removed rather than native hairs (based on the individual case and how natural it looks). I have not seen data on graft survival but one thing to consider would be increased scar tissue with moving individual grafts more than once. If the recipient area appearance is your concern there may be other things that could help such as another hair transplant, PRP, medical therapy or scalp micropigmentation. If coverage in the donor area is a concern, again medical therapies, PRP, and scalp micropigmentation could be considered. I would recommend seeing an experienced hair restoration surgeon (including potentially the one you did your procedure with initially if you are comfortable with that) to discuss your individual case and options.

It is better to see your photos  in order to understand the problem you have, treatment methods and/or estimate how much graft do we need to fix  the  problem. İt  is  hard to remove and transplant all  of these grafts again in their original place. That  my  cause  scar  ..

Hi ozgemoumin, If we get those grafts again, there's a chance of scarring in that area. Already in the first procedure, that area is slightly damaged, when we open a channel to place the old grafts on top of it again, it may not be very healthy. Therefore, there is a possibility that the hair follicles will not hold on to that area again. I do not recommend this procedure at all.

It is not possible to remove the transplant grafts and re-implant them on the donor area. it will leave scars on the recipient area. Also, the donor scalp is quite tight after the first extraction. The grafts will not grow hair.
