Based on your photos, I would not recommend doing anything to your jawline. Your chin and jaw have good projection. I also do not see any excess skin under your chin that I would remove.
It is not clear as to what you mean by improving the jawline from the side. Does this mean just the chin, the jaw angles or the entire jawline from angle to chin. Knowing that changes what options you have. But assuming you do mean the entire jawline the most effective option is a custom jawline implant.

I would agree with your assessment. The problem with implants is that the shape is not your natural bone shape. Ideally you remove the implant and have a genioplasty which will lead to a more narrow tapered balance.
