Swelling woes after Tumescent Lipo - how long until it goes down?

Hello: - Tumescent Lipo with a lazer done a week ago under local anesthesia - 30 year old Male and weighed about 150 pounds - 1 liter removed My doctor told me that I only had to wear the compression garment for a week and then I would be back to going to the gym and could even go for a jog within a week of the procedure. That all turned out to be wrong and I'm still very swollen and now he say play it by ear. How long before the swelling goes down to a point where I can go to the gym etc?

Hello. Great question. Congratulations  on your procedure. It can take 3-6 months for all the swelling to go down. Keep following your surgeon's post op instructions.

Swelling can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding exercise. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Thank you for your question.  Each individual patient is different when it comes to recovery time.  After this procedure the swelling may take more than two weeks to go down and you can start exercising again after about 2 weeks-1 month.  I would continue to follow up with your surgeon for a precise timeline.

The greatest amount of swelling after liposuction is in the first month, but swelling can last up to 6 months. I recommend wearing the compression garment for a minimum of 4 weeks. If there is still a fair amount of swelling, I have my patients wear the garment longer.
