Dark/raised scarring on lower back/buttocks after illness - will a chemical peel help or would laser be the best option? (Photo)

In August, I had a bad flu which was the worst illness I’ve ever experienced. Shortly after starting the prescribed medication, I developed a diffuse rash across my lower back and buttocks. Almost three months later, I have scarring from the rash. For ~2 months, I’ve been using tretinoin at night and Eucerin or salicylic acid during the day, but it’s still not looking good. Some of the scars are raised but not pustular, mimicking an inflammatory rash I occasionally get on my face (which looks like acne but isn’t). However, it usually goes away on my face in a week or two. Would an in-office chemical peel be a suitable next step, or is this likely to require more intensive intervention like lasEr?
