I have been to plastic surgeons about buccal fat removal and they never say that it's important to have because of aging of the face. I've actually had one tell me that it's a myth and there's no use for the buccal fat. But yet I go on Realself and see some doctors advise against it because it can give a gaunt look as you get older and prematsure aging. I'm confused as to what is correct about this procedure?

Buccal fat removal usually causes minimal swelling of the lower cheeks. However, if the removal of the fat in one side of the face is more "tough" thats the other side ( the fat doest come out as ease as the other side) most of the time, that side develops more swelling.

I am so sorry to hear of this problem. Without a photo, one really can't advise you. You should return to your surgeon to find out what happened before trying anything to treat it.
