Breast reduction at age 70. Am I too old?

The most important factor is that you are in good health. Many patients your age and older have breast reduction surgery. As long as you get clearance from your doctor, you should do fine. Breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing procedures performed. Good luck!

Age alone is never a contraindication to surgery even breast reduction surgery.  Whether or not you should undergo breast reduction surgery is more a matter of your general health.  If you are other wise healthy and do not have significant comorbidities (other health issues) you should consider it especially  if you've come to the conclusion that your breast size has detracted from you ability to enjoy life to the fullest. However, it is imperative that you discuss this with your primary physician and he is in agreement.

Thank you for the question.You are absolutely not “too old” for the breast reduction procedure assuming you are “cleared" for the procedure by your medical doctor. Hopefully, your only regret after the procedure, will be that you wish you had done it sooner in life. Your age is not a contraindication to having breast reduction surgery.  Your overall medical health is the most important factor, and you will likely need to be medically cleared by your primary care physician and/or a cardiologist prior to proceeding with surgery.  Best wishes.  

I have patients who have seen great benefits in having a breast reduction in their 70's.  Age is not as much as an issue as it used to be, and as long as you are in good health and have adequate preoperative assessment, I do not see your age as being a problem in itself.  Good luck.

While the typical age for a breast reduction patient is in the 30s, there is no age limit to having the surgery performed. The most important factor for any elective surgery is overall good health. You will need to consult with your primary doctor to get medical clearance for a procedure under general anesthesia for approximately 3 hours in duration. If you qualify as being fit for surgery, then even at 70 you will reap the benefits of a breast reduction which includes less back, shoulder, and neck pain, and an improved posture.
