I received 0.5 ml of filler 3x (Feb 2022, June 2022, May 2023). Over the past year, I have noticed a discolored area on my top lip, particularly when I smile. This only became very noticeable to me in mid to late 2023, but when I go back and look at pictures from earlier, I do see it earlier too. It seems like it has become darker over time and is now prominent in any photo I smile in. My provider said she has no idea what it is. Could it be a broken blood vessel, and would dissolving help?

Lip filler treatment can cause bruising and swelling. If after two weeks you still have concerns you can elect to have the filler dissolved using hyaluronidase. You can also leave the filler to be metabolized naturally. You will need to work with your provider regarding cost.
A filler treatment would not interfere with the local anesthetic injected into different area of the body. However if you were to go under general anesthesia it is best to wait to have lip filler as the oxygen masks and other equipment could put place pressure on the treated lips.
If you choose not to dissolve the migrated filler it will be metabolized naturally over time. Typically lip fillers last six months to a year depending on the type of filler selected. I've included a video that I hope is helpful.
