It’s uncommon, but in some cases, cannula or needle entry points from filler procedures can leave subtle residual marks or depressions in the skin. This can happen due to minor scar tissue formation, changes in skin texture, or very slight tethering beneath the skin. Even though the Volbella has long since dissolved, these changes may persist over time.Treatment options can include gentle resurfacing (e.g., laser, microneedling), subcision to release tethered tissue, or very light filler placement to smooth the area. A careful in-person evaluation is important to determine the best approach and avoid further changes in the delicate under-eye skin.
Hello! My name is Jessica, I am a physician assistant, and one of the providers at Aesthetic Skin in Winnetka and Chicago. This is a great question. Track marks from under-eye filler injections using a cannula, which persist 2-3 years later, can be concerning. These marks are often residual signs of the injection process, such as localized skin indentations or discolorations. While these track marks can be challenging to address, they may be improved with various treatments. Options include microneedling or laser therapy, which can stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and appearance. Dermal fillers or fat grafting might also be used to correct any depressions or asymmetries caused by the injections. Consulting with a skilled dermatologist or aesthetic practitioner is essential to assess the specific nature of the track marks and determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your individual case. I hope this helps and best of luck!
It is difficult to say from the photos alone, but there is a distinct possibility that the under-eye filler treatment may have given rise to lymphatic obstruction or lymphedema. This may occur if an inappropriate choice of filler was used and/or the filler was injected too superficially within the delicate under-eye skin. This kind of problem can manifest even long after the filler treatment and is typically persistent or even permanent. I have personally had gratifying results in treating patients who have come to me having been treated elsewhere employing an algorithm of varying combinations, concentrations and amounts of intralesional anti-inflammatory agents. You would be wise to seek consultation and treatment by an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.

Thank you for the photos and your question. It looks like the filler may have been placed too superficially. I recommend having the filler dissolved. “Dark circles” are often caused by multiple factors and the best treatment depends on the underlying cause: 1. Anatomy - a physical depression und...
The Tyndall effect occurs when filler is placed too superficially in the under-eye area, leading to a bluish tint. To avoid this, the filler must be injected deeply, ideally on the bone or in the sub-orbicularis plane, using a hyaluronic acid product designed for delicate under-eye use. Your...
