Good morning , So i am 20 years old.I have been losing my hair since i was 13. I tried several medications, including minoxidil. And nothing has ever helped me to stop or reverse the process. I considered doing a hair transplant. I have contacted a clinic and they've told me i am not eligible due to my age. So being partially bald at this very young age is really hurting me psychologically so badly Are there any alternatives to reverse the process? Is finasteride safe ? Can it grow hair back ?
Answer: Photos cannot determine if you would be a good candidate for surgery. You need an examination and the doctor needs to understan Photos cannot determine if you would be a good candidate for surgery. You need an examination and the doctor needs to understand your goals and expectations. You need to have good communication with your doctor to understand what your end result will look like. Someone with your hair loss pattern may be perfectly happy with 3000 grafts, while others may not be happy even with over 6000 grafts. You also have to realize one surgery may not be enough. To add to the confusion, straight black hair on fair skin results in a thinner appearing outcome then someone with curly blond hair on fair skin. I hope you can appreciate there are many factors to your end result than just a "number" of grafts.

Answer: Hair Transplant & PRP Therapy Have you looked into PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy? It is a great option for struggling and thinning hair. The treatment would require your provider to draw your blood and process it to harvest your growth factors. The growth factors would then be injected into the area to be treated. The growth factors from PRP stimulate hair growth. Typically, the treatment is done once a month for four consecutive months and then a maintenance treatment once a year. Answer: Hair transplant timing The timing of transplant is crucial especially when the goal is restoration of a hairline. Transplant involves the transfer of androgen insensitive follicular units from areas of abundance to areas of deficit. This is best undertaken when a patient has reached a stable hair pattern.Establishing a new permanent front via grafting before reaching a loss plateau will commit an individual to repeat grafting in order to fill in as loss continues behind the grafted front.A stable pattern is best estimated by evaluating male relatives (parents, grandparents, siblings). The typical candidate is in his 50's and has reached a plateau. However, the young man in his early 20's whose pattern mirrors the stable pattern of his father, 30 years his senior, is a reasonable candidate as well. As always, discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon with experience in hair restoration (ABPS).

Answer: 20 is Too Young for a Hair Transplant A: As a rule of thumb we also do not recommend a transplant to anyone under the age of 25 because the pattern of your thinning is not established. You will inevitably loose more hair and we wouldn't want to you to have a potentially unnatural looking hairline as you continue to thin in the future. Medical therapy is the best thing you can do right now and it does require a long term commitment in order to be effective. Initially you should regrow some hair or at the very least it will slow the progression of hair loss. If you stop treatment, your hair will revert back to do what it is genetically predetermined to do, which is fall out. We have many patients who take finasteride along with minoxidil without any problems or side effects. These two medications together work best to tackle hair loss as long as they are used consistently and as directed by your doctor. We recommend consulting with a board certified dermatologist to determine your best options for hair regrowth. Good luck!

Answer: SmartGraft Hair Transplant We recently transplanted a 21 year old using SmartGraft. He essentially had the same hairline as his father did who was 50. You would be a candidate for SmartGraft. those medications are not going to solve your problem.
