Can Breast Implants Cause Lichen Planus?

Question

i had saline implants placed and about 2 1/2 months later I devleoped lichen planus on my feet and hands and oral mucosa and it has not responded to the normal medical treatments. I have had it now for 5 months and I am miserable. All other medical reasons have been ruled out.

I concur with Dr. Pelletiere's assesment. The overall physiologic stress on your body is more likely the cause than the implants. Irregardless, you should seek all causes and pursue treatment as recommended by your physician.

There has been no link between having breast implants and any sort of systemic disease process. More than likely, the stress from the surgery activated the process. Lichen planus is a tough disease process to fully treat to begin with, let alone when your body is fully recovering. I would discuss this with a well trained dermatologist, but the implants should not be causing the problem. I hope this helps.

There is no association betwerrn breast implants and lichen planus.  I think that the cause should not be directed or associated with the implants.

There have been many studies trying to connect diseases like Lichen Planus to breast implants. All of them have shown absolutely no connection. Therefore, the appearance in you is just a coincidence. Occurring 2 ½ months after surgery, this should not even be related to the stress of the surgery as a precipitating stimulus.
