I have a birthmark on the side of my lower abdomen (picture given). I want to get a black tattoo over my birthmark covering it up. However I have heard that tattoo over birthmark is linked to increased risk of skin cancer. Please let me know if it is true

I recommend you have it checked by a skin specialist (dermatologist or plastic surgeon), before you have any tattooing or laser treatment. As risks and best treatment vary according to nature of lesions. Covering up a naevus with a tattoo doesn’t increase the possibility of it turning into cancer, but will make it more difficult to examine and assess in the future for any changes. It might be safer to have it removed and if needed tattoo the scar. Laser would work well if the lesion is vascular.
