Would Botox injections relieve or stop the tight painful muscles in my lower back?

Botox has been reported for back pain.  However, that is a question that should be answered not by an aesthetic physician but by a pain doctor.  Pain doctors have generally done a fellowship after a residency in either anesthesia or physical medicine and rehab.  Look for someone board certified in pain who is best equipped to diagnose the cause of your back pain and discuss the options for treatment with you.  Unfortunately, as a cosmetic dermatologist, that is not in my purview.I hope this answer helps you get to the right kind of physician for your problem.  Best wishes.

There are multiple reasons for patients to suffer with lower back pain so your treatment would be based on which of many triggers is the primary source.  Botox can help reduce the muscle spasms but it shouldn't be suggested without a comprehensive neurosurgical evaluation.

In general Botox is not used to relieve large muscle spasms as in the back. It would take way too much of the medicine and may be unpredictable in it's outcome. Nor is it FDA approved for this purpose. There are other medical ways to treat back pain and spasm that works better and is cost-effective

Botox can be used to treat some forms of back pain. Primarily you want your treat the cause of the spasms. you need to be seen by person treating you and if they find that Botox is helpful they could use it in strategic locations. Good luck from New York City

Certainly you can use Botox for back pain. It has been applied to other areas such as the neck and muscles in the head for migraines. It works by relaxing the muscles by blocking chemicals released by the nerves. Just keep in mind that the painful muscles can be caused by other reasons such as arthritis in the back. 

Botox has been used for muscles of the body that have been in constant spasm or pain, like frozen shoulders and leg spasms, backs may be an option as well. Rehab medicine may be  the best avenue to research.Choose an expert. Best. Dr Brecht
