I Took a Hot Shower About an Hour After Getting Botox, Will This Affect my Results?

I took a hot shower about an hour after getting 19 units of Botox and then blow dried my hair, will this affect my results? I tried to not touch my face at all but now I'm concerned I have ruined my results.

A Botox injection is an excellent way to improve the the wrinkles of the forehead or crow's feet with little or no down time. There are only a couple things that can not be done after having the procedure. After the injection, it is important not to press on the areas for 24 hours, or lie down for about 3 hours. Also, you should make the appropriate facial expressions to help the Botox into the muscle. With that said, showering after getting a Botox treatment will not affect your results. Usually, after a Botox treatment you start seeing results in a few days to a week.

A hot shower post-Botox injections shouldn't affect the results of your treatment. It typically takes from 5 to 10 days for you to see the effects of your treatment, especially if it was the first time you'd had these injections.

Hi Callista. Not to worry. A hot shower right after injections will not affect your Botox results. Of most concern with Botox injections is the ability for the product to "migrate" or move away from the injection point. This is best avoided by not lying flat or doing any heavy exercise for several hours after injections. Good luck.

Massaging the areas that were injected, lying down flat within 3 hours of treatment, and vigorous exercise are discouraged because some feel they cause the Botox to diffuse. Your hot shower is unlikely to have any effect on your results.

A shower at any temperature after Botox treatments is not a problem. I generally advise avoiding a hot tub, jacuzzi or sauna the day of the injection of Botox mainly to minimize the risk and extent of bruising. It will not affect the results. A hot shower right after Botox will not affect your results because of the way Botox is injected deeper than at the surface level. Heavy massage, strenuous exercise or lying flat immediately after injection can sometimes affect your results. So as long as you avoid those activities you should be fine. “Dr. D”

When Botox is administered, it is injected under the skin and into the muscles that contribute to wrinkles. It shoulr therefore not be effected by any "surface" treatments like washing, showering, touching the skin or heat. Having said that, it is advised that patietn don't lie down for a few hours after their treatment or massage their skin deeply in order to prevent any migration of the Botox. As well, patient should not work out vigorously for 24 hours after treatment.
