Can I take laxative less then 24 house after. My tummy is hard and uncomfortable. 5 days prior to my surgery I was in a car accident and on Norco so I have only pooped once in a week ?

Hello, thank you for your question! It is not uncommon to be bloated and constipated after surgery.  I would recommend drinking plenty of water and take something like Miralax or prune juice.  Sometimes a laxative can cause stomach cramps.

Jamie.   It is quite common to experience constipation or irregularity right after surgery of any kind because of the anesthesia and pain medications. I usually advise mild, over-the-counter stool softeners to my patients and ask them to try to switch from stronger pain meds to Tylenol as soon as possible to allow their bodies to return to normal. Most importantly, check in with your plastic surgeon before taking any medications. Best of luck!

Hi and thank you so much for your question! I suggest all my patient's take stool softeners post operatively and while they are taking narcotics, as narcotics are a very common cause constipation. Congratulations on your breast augmentation and best of luck!

Taking a laxative after surgery is certain safe.  Other things I would recommend to get your bowels moving - ambulation, prune juice, staying hydrated.  Congratulations on your recent breast augmentation.

Thank you for your question.  Yes you can take a mild laxative post operatively.  You may also want to take a stool softener until you are back on your normal schedule with your bowels.
