How Much Juvederm Can I Have Injected in One Session?

Facial fillers provide natural restoration of facial contour and volume. They should be performed in a conservative fashion to avoid complications and an unnatural appearance. I typically focus on one or two specific anatomic regions that can be significantly improved by one or two syringes of Juvederm. This allows a quantitative and exacting approach to facial volume and its restoration with facial fillers.
Timing should coincide with the type of injection. Since Juvederm is a non-stimulatory filler, Juvederm injections can be spaced apart by as little as a few days. Preferably, I choose to separate Juvederm injections by several weeks.

In any injection setting, subtle changes spaced at least 2 weeks apart allow patients to experience a wow result with out the, "What did you have done?" questions most people want to avoid. The amount of filler depends on the area or areas being injected. A consult with a qualified injector is your best next step. Make sure you investigate their qualifications, to ensure you are getting the best treatment plan.

Thank you for your question about Juvederm.  The amount of product that can be injected at one time depends on the area/areas that are being treated.  Typically we do not inject more than one syringe in the lips at one time.  Our office recommends waiting 1-2 weeks before being treated again.  This allows the area to heal and any swelling to subside.

How much Juvederm is needed is highly patient dependent. How much can be injected at one time is highly dependent on the injector. I can tell you that we usually inject no more than a syringe  (o.8 ml) in each cheek and less in other anatomical areas. The number of anatomical areas needed to treat and the depth of the injection (deeper injections allow for more product to be used safely) will determine the maximum that can be injected. We then have patients return in 4-6 weeks to determine if additional injections are required.

Depending on the area that needs to be treated and the sensitivity of the patient's skin, it will help determine the minimum or maximum of Juvederm dosages. After the first session, the doctor will be able to better assess how much you can use.

The question is best answered by knowing what area(s) are being treated.  Although volumizing (ex: cheek hollows) requires several syringes, sometimes the best approach is a conservative approach.  We usually design a treatment plan of two facial areas that we focus on with full correction.  Full correction refers to using the correct amount of product to obtain the best outcome and duration. 

We then have the patient return in 2 weeks for a check up.  At that time, we discuss additional treatment goals.  By the two week mark, we have a better idea of the end result.  We have used as  many as 3 syringes in one treatment but those are usually far and few in between.  A conservative approach leads to a natural outcome, is better tolerated, is easier on the pocketbook,  and will provide a clearer approach to full correction.

You never want to over inject due to the risks associated with overinjecting and the fact that it is not cost effective for the patient.  We typically due to no more than 2 syringes for patients in 2 anatomical areas at a single session and will then touch up areas (if necessary) no sooner than a week to ten days later.

I think a lot of people are wanting a certain level of improvement and may be tempted to use a large amount of Juvederm to achieve that goal.  Also, most of us are averse to needles, so there is the idea of "getting it over with" in one visit.  The problem with that approach is that few people want the appearance of having had "something done".   They really prefer subtle improvements that are difficult for others to detect.  They want to look refreshed, not overdone.  You can't really have it both ways.  In addition, it makes more sense to use just a few syringes, wait a few weeks, then re-evaluate the face to see if there is any reason to add more.   Hope that helps.  Take care.

Juvederm is commonly used around the lips, the smile lines, the marionette lines, under deep wrinkles, under deep scars, and even under the area of the eye.
The amount of Juvederm that you can receive depends on the quality of the skin that will be treated in a number of areas that are receiving treatment. In our practice, we have used up to six syringes of Juvederm in a patient who requested correction of the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lip augmentation, and deep wrinkles or depressions from scar. Typically, patients require one Juvederm syringe per nasolabial fold. Patients may receive a mild lip augmentation with a single syringe or a fuller result with 1 1/2 to 2 syringes.
 

I don't think that there is a specific number of syringes that you are limited to. However, I don't recall ever putting more than 3 -4 max in only a few patients. Anymore than that, you probably need to do other things, like surgery. A term I have heard is fillerexia when patients get too much filler and look unusual.
