Fat transfer 6 weeks ago - chipmunk cheeks, lips too big.

Question

I had fat transfer to my face 6 weeks ago. I have not seen any significant improvement since 4 weeks. When I smile, my cheeks are entirely too chubby and my lips too big. I had 45ccs put in my face. Is there hope that it will go down more?

Swelling is typical after fat transfer and can last 3-6 months. I recommend prp and Sculptra to help improve final results. Icing the area, predisone, ibuoprofen and venus legacy treatments can help reduce swelling. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

You don't send any results or before photos so I can make no comment on the results. But I can tell you that I do not do a final evaluation until at least 3 months and usually 4 months. Do not use steroids they will only prolong resolution of late swelling.  The best thing to do is nothing and be patient.

Hello Lydia3636,With any surgical procedure you can expect swelling.  As a general rule of thumb by 2 months 90% of that swelling will be gone.  As the swelling goes down you will get a better appreciation of your final result, but it can take up to a year.  With fat transfer the amount of fat that remains is not completely predictable which is why so much volume is used.  When it turns out great it provides for an excellent result.  But if it isn't what you were hoping for it is not easy to improve upon.  I would recommend you continue to follow up with your surgeon so he or she can continue to evaluate you.I hope this helps and good luck.
