Doubts about laser on the face. How many sessions are needed?

I have some fears about do laser in my face. I want to remove the hair of my upper lip, chin and eyebrows but I am a really hairy person. I use to wax my upper lip 3 times per week and I am afraid that if I have to shave that area, 2 days after the session my hair will grow up again but darker and stronger and that can be worst. What do you recommend me? How many sessions it use to be needed to remove the hair completely in that areas? What kind of laser is the best for the face area? Thank you!

I find that electrolysis works better than laser in most cases but you should go to an expert.  Either way, both are safe when done by a well trained individual.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Hello, You certainly have a lot of questions. I will try to address each one. The best laser is the one that is cleared for your skin type.  (Fitzpatrick Scale I-VI).  You must discontinue waxing as long as you are going through treatment. Waxing actually pulls out the follicle at the root and disrupts the growth cycle.  The growth cycle for the face is 1 treatment every 4 weeks.  You can shave the area being treated, and as opposed to the "old wives tales", your hair will not grow back fuller or courser. Most hair removal sessions are 6-8 treatments. When it comes to lasers, there are different wavelengths for different skin types. You need to make sure that the facility that you pick has the correct wavelength for your skin type. With the right wavelength, it shouldn't matter what part of the body the hair reduction is performed. Good Luck
