The needles used to deliver Kybella's deoxycholic acid to melt submental fat are very thin and are unlikely to cause scar tissue. The reason no more than six sessions of Kybella are recommended are twofold: 1) Clinical studies didn't follow patients who had more than six sessions and so therefore cannot comment on the efficacy of going beyond that number of treatments; 2) Well-selected Kybella candidates should not need more than three or four treatments to achieve optimal results when dosed appropriately by someone who knows what they are doing. If you have a large degree of submental fat, it would probably be better treated with facial liposuction. If you want to avoid surgery, then several sessions of CoolSculpting could be a better choice than going beyond six Kybella treatments. Or, you could have a combination of CoolSculpting and Kybella treatements. Consulting a board-certified dermatologist that offers multiple modalities to reduce the double chin and letting him or her know what your concerns and desires are will help you choose the best treatment(s) for you.
The amount of treatments recommended are based on results for improvement. It is unlikely that Kybella injections will cause a build up of scar tissue that will negatively impact your results. Keep in mind, a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options like Kybella. I recommend Kybella with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is the best alternative for contouring the chin. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer
The original studies on Kybella only went up to 6 treatments thus the limit. Most patients typically only need between 2-4 injections to see results. Schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to be examined in person and see if you are a candidate.
Hello Kaitlyn213,Kybella does a great job on appropriate patients to reduce the double chin. Treatment involves a series of injections usually spaced out about 6 weeks. Most patients respond to between 2-4 treatments depending on what the neck looks like. The original studies went up to 6 treatments. That is why most will say up to 6 treatments. However, if you still have fat present then you likely could go with more injections, it just would be considered off label. I'd recommend you consult with a facial plastic surgeon to learn if you are a candidate for Kybella and also learn about other neck options.I hope this helps and good luck.
I am sorry to hear that you have experienced Kybella induced hair loss. While the hair does typically grow back within 6 months, every individual is different. I still think it would prudent for you to schedule an appointment with your cosmetic dermatologist or surgeon to discuss.
I am so sorry that you are experiencing excessive post injection swelling. I would definitely have your surgeon file a report with Allergan. However, I wouldn't worry about this being permanent. As long as the area is still hard to the touch then the Kybella is working. Your body is just taking...
For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in-person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest...
