After a Kybella treatment, does drinking water help remove the fat more quickly?

 Kybella is administered as an injection into
the fat tissue in the submental area (under chin). Multiple injections are
required with each treatment. Total treatment time will take about 20 minutes.

Drinking water is a terrific way of keeping yourself and your skin hydrated. However, upping your intake of water will not help eliminate fat from your body after Kybella treatment. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks before your final results are visible. Please see a board-certified dermatologist to talk about how to use Kybella to treat a double chin.

Bruising,
swelling and mild discomfort can be expected following your Kybella treatment. These
issues should resolve within 72 hours. You might be  asked to avoid exercising
during this time and to avoid strenous exercise for the week following Kybella injections.  This is just a precautionary

Good hydration is always important
and recommended after any procedure. However, there are no studies to verify
that fat cells will clear more quickly because of it.

Kybella is an FDA approved injectable to reduce the fullness beneath the chin. Swelling and firmness are very common. These are typical side effects and are actually the desired results because they are temporary and the product is in the area and working well. This represents an inflammatory process and drinking water will help to speed the recovery.

Swelling and "hardness" are very common temporary side effects following treatment with Kybella.  While drinking plenty of water is healthy for your body overall, the amount of water that one drinks has no known effect on reducing the severity or duration of the local, mild side effects that typically occur following Kybella treatment.

I find that radiofrequency treatments help the kybella and/or massaging.  But I have not found that drinking or eating anything special helps.  Best, Dr. Emer.

 Thank you for your question. After a Kybella treatment, I often find that cooling for the first 24 to 48 hours, compression, and lymphatic massage are the best options to help decrease the degree of swelling. The lumpiness may take several weeks for it to fully resolved. I would wait until everything has fully resolved before your next Kybella treatment. 

While staying hydrated after your Kybella treatment will help with healing, drinking more water will not make the lumps dissipate faster. Only time will help.
