I had a circumcision a year and a half ago, on September 27, 2023. After six months of healing, I was left with a pinkish-white scar beneath the shaft of my penis. My doctors attributed it to breakage during erections. I’m not sure if there was another procedure involved, possibly a phalloplasty to assist with urination. The scar underwent intense sloughing, and after months of applying prescription collagen, it remained with the whiteish-pink scar. My doctor assured me that the pigment would eventually return, but it’s been a year and a half since the incident, and there hasn’t been any change. Are there any non-surgical options that could help restore the scar?

It’s understandable to be concerned about changes in pigment after circumcision and healing, especially when the scar has remained lighter than the surrounding skin for an extended period. Topical treatments: Certain prescription creams containing ingredients like hydroquinone, retinoids, or corticosteroids may help even out skin tone, though results can be limited on fully mature scars.

Microneedling or fractional laser therapy: These stimulate collagen and can sometimes improve both texture and pigmentation, though results vary depending on scar depth and location.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): Occasionally used to support skin healing and improve color, though evidence is limited for genital skin.
