Will taking daily anti-inflammatory meds interfere with my sculptra results?

will anti inflammatory drugs limit the stimulation of collegan or otherwise inflammatory response which is desired? if so, what to substitute? 54 years, 5 vials over 5 months. arthritic patient with osteo using nsaids and ibuprophen or naproxen

Thank you for sharing your question.  If possible I would limit your use of NSAIDs as it may limit the production of collagen as a result of the body's response to Sculptra.  I would recommend Tylenol as an alternative.  Hope this helps.

In theory, the anti inflammatories will cause less collagen stimulation from the Sculptra. This has never been studied. Tylenol can be substituted for these without affect collagen production.

Hello and thank you for your post. Taking NSAIDs for your OA may or may not interfere. From a post procedural basis, you are definitely more likely to bruise. The inflammatory pathways that lead to collagen stimulation may be slightly turned off and thus your response to Sculptra may not be the same as a healthy 54 yr patient without any anti-inflammatory intake. If your doctor is only placing one vial at a time per treatment session, it may be better to wait 6 wks in between treatments to allow your inflammation to take its own course as it may be slightly delayed. Certainly as we age our ability to produce collagen decreases and our ability to mount an inflammatory response decreases - more so in patients with other medical comorbidities reducing the ability to decrease inflammation.

Might be a possibility but nothing is contra indicated. Might need more volume of injections than anticipated though.
