6 weeks post BA, when can I wear a normal bra?

Question

I am now 6 wks after BA under he muscle. My surgeon asked me to wear well fitted non wired Bra / Sports Bra for 12 weeks?! I am just wondering when can I have myself measured for my new size? And when can I wear a normal bra? Is it ok to take my BRA off? Confused

Thanks for your question. Most surgeons only ask patients to wear a post operative bra for 6 weeks after surgery, but I do ask patients to wear a post op bra for longer in certain circumstances. It is best to check with your plastic surgeon.

I understand your concern. However, it would be difficult to determine what size your breast will be after surgery, as there would still be swelling of the tissues surrounding the implant. Also, the implants take about 6 months to drop, fluff, and settle into its final position. You should speak with your plastic surgeon for further advice and reassurance.

The best resource for information would be your surgeon. Surgical bras help with the compression to reduce swelling and it helps shape the breast so that the implants settle into the right place and prevent malposition.

You should follow the advice of your surgeon because they know you best.  However, 12 weeks is very conservative & if all went well I would allow my patients to wear anything (or nothing) after 6 weeks.  Best to check again with your surgeon.
