Filler directly in front of earlobe area?

Question

I have consulted with 2 doctors with regards to adding to the contour of my face--specifically the temples & in front of the lower ears. They both said, "We don't usually do that," and said they could fill my cheeks. Well, having prominent cheekbones as it is, I recognize the losses I've pointed out as being what detracts from my appearance. Isn't that possible? Sculptra doesn't appeal because it lacks specificity.

Filler is best used for contouring and lifting, rather than line filling.  You get more long term natural results with lateral facial filling with temples, lateral cheeks, preauricular (front of ears) and even the ear lobes, and jawline.  This gives support and lift that you need long term.  If you have loss of volume in cheeks and other areas like lips they should also be filled but conservatively.  All my patients use sculptra as a foundation, you get more collagen production and long term support with this.  I suggest seeing a filler expert who uses cannulas to limit complications. Thank you for your question. Fillers can be used in multiple areas to correct defects or asymmetries. Unfortunately, many of these areas for many of these products are considered "off label" uses and not approved  by the FDA. That makes many doctors uncomfortable using them in those areas.I think that if after an in-person consultation with a local plastic surgeon who is experienced with injectables, it can be reasonably determined that you have a direct defect in front of the earlobe area that needs to be corrected, that it is possible that HA fillers may help to correct this.Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your question.  It is very common for patients to lose volume in both the temples and the area in front of the ear, the pre-auricular cheek.  This tends to happen simultaneously in most patients.  In my practice, I love to use Juvederm Voluma to replace the volume in these areas, restoring a nice balance to the face and even providing a bit of a lift! Now, there may be a specific reason these two physicians didn't think it was possible to do this in YOUR face, but it is definitely an area that I treat on a regular basis.  It takes some extra skill and training to do this, so make sure you find a well trained and experienced physician injector to help you get the results you are looking for.  Best of luck to you!
