Is it okay to wear rubber bands on only one side when it should be both?

One of my buttons for the rubber bands fell out. Is it okay to keep wearing a rubber band on only one side or should I wait to get the missing one replaced? In other words, if I only wore the rubber band on one side (when it should be both), would it mess with the corrections of my overbite?

The answer to this really does depend on the exact treatment plan and the specific teeth you are referring too. This is hard to say without a picture but to be on the safe side I would recommend having the button replaced before wearing any of the bands.
