Will swelling under eye after lower face/neck lift go away?

Question

From the very first week, I have had a huge swelling under my right eye, even though I didn't have anything done on my eyes. I am 7 weeks post surgery, and still have the swelling and slight bruise. Is this normal? And will it go away? And, no, I'm not going to contact my surgeon because he is out of the country; and emailing him has been futile because his responses have not been very detailed.

Thank you for your question and pictures.  This is very typical for the malar fat bag area to stay swollen for a few months.  You can use cold compresses to hep reduce the swelling.  Please make regular follow up appointments with your surgeon, especially if you have concerns.  Happy Recovery!

Swelling will last weeks to months after extensive facial surgery. If you remain concerned, I recommend following up with a Doctor. Icing and Venus legacy treatments will give improvement. Best, Dr. Emer

First, there is nothing to worry about.  Swelling in this area, known as the malar fat bag area, can stay swollen for months unfortunately.  It eventually goes away.  It looks like one could aspirate or suck out the swelling, but that is not possible.  Think water in a sponge rather than water in a balloon.  You can try topical treatments such as Arnica, topical steroid cream or a course of oral steroids.  Good luck
