I have been suffering from hair loss for nearly a decade. I do not think my hair loss has exacerbated dramatically but in recent months it has increasingly bothered me more (and thus I believe it may have become more visible). I used to have very lush and voluminous hair before the age of 16, but after a traumatic events my hair fell out over time. This is impacting my social life and confidence a lot. What treatment would you recommend for me? Does it look like reversible hair loss?

Hello! Thank you for your question about recommended treatments for hair loss. PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, injections to the scalp is a great treatment option for hair loss and thinning hair. PRP to the scalp is a safe treatment for your age. PRP strengthens hair follicles and influences hair growth. In the office, we will draw your blood, spin it down in a centrifuge for about 10 minutes at a very high speed, then extract the PRP. Next, we inject the PRP into your scalp in the areas you are concerned with. The PRP treatment takes about 30 minutes and there is minimal downtime from this procedure. Some patients experience mild tenderness in the treated areas for 1-2 days. Tylenol can be taken for any discomfort. You should plan at least 3 treatments, 1 month apart to start.

Hi! You should start from making a blood test to find a reason of your problem to get out of it. Here is a list of it: 1.Determination of the level of thyroid hormones (TSH, free T4, AT to TPO);2. Complete blood count with leukoformula (CBC);3. Analysis for latent iron deficiency (ferritin, serum iron, TIBS) and 25-OH-vitamin D, biotin, zinc.

Ideally, you’ll want to see a specialist so that your full story fan be obtained and the scalp can be examined. That’s the way hair loss is confidently diagnosed. That said, it appears likely that at least one of the diagnoses is androgenetic alopecia. Whether other diagnoses could be present too will require a more detailed evaluation.
