Why is the compression garment making the swelling worse when it is suppose to help reduce it?

The compression garment is important to wear
because it will control any swelling that occurs after the procedure. You tend
to swell more a few days post procedure, this is normal. In order to control
swelling wear the compression garment and you will start to see a contour in
your body’s shape.

Swelling can be exacerbated by compression around the face. Best to ask your surgeon if he wantws you to wear it.

it's not unusual for the area above the strap and just below it to show increased swelling when wearing the strap. The strap is to keep swelling away in the area treated but it causes swelling in the tissues surrounding the untreated area. This may not make good sense to you but it is important because keeping the treated area compressed not only keeps fluid and swelling out but allows the overlying skin to heal or attach to the underlying tissues. This is important for your result and proper contouring.
