Question

I have gained 60 lbs in the last 5 years. Depression and several other issues but surprisingly I am healthy aside from problems I have created such as my weight and cholesterol. My question I would like to get implants at least to fill in my breasts right now and I do not have a problem with bigger breasts when I lose weight which could be slowly. I am fifty years old and want to know if I can have this done done?

I perform a liposuction breast lift that removes tissue from the areas you don't want such as near the armpit and the lower portion hanging near your stomach. Once I use this to shape the breast I then remove the skin to tighten the breast and create a better shape with nice cleavage. Since I perform this less invasively the recovery time is faster and drains are not necessary. The size would depend on the proportion with your body versus going for a cup size. It works very well if there are asymmetries. I can also use the removed fat as a natural breast augmentation by grafting the fat back into the breast to create more projection or into the top to create more cleavage. This procedure can also be combined with an implant if needed or wanted.  It should not affect nipple sensation, mammograms, cancer risk or breast-feeding. If you gain or lose weight, the transferred fat can do the same.

For health and safety reasons, best to be at a BMI less than 30 or within 10 pounds of your goal weight and stable at that weight for 6 months prior to surgery for optimal results.The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.  Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery.

Breast lift with implants may not be the best idea at a heavier weight as the lift may need to be redone after you lose the weight.

It is always ideal to perform your surgery at or near your desired/realistic weight prior to surgery.  For various reasons, this may be nearly impossible or sometimes surgery is required to remove or lift tissues away so that it becomes easier to exercise and lose weight.Go and discuss your options with a plastic surgeon.Best Wishes,Nana Mizuguchi, MD
