Metal Plates are not a contraindication for dental implants. Most metal plates are placed to reduce a fracture or to correct a defect secondary to tumor removal. If the implant was placed do to a tumor removal, was there any radiation treatment? If radiation was given, you need to be careful secondary inherent risk to the healing of bone. If no radiation has been given, there should be no problem. If the crews used to place the implants are in strategic areas were the implants need to go, you can always remove the plate. Also remember that the metal plates will make it difficult to evaluate the area radiographically as this tend to create a scatter in the x-ray.Good Luck to you, Dr. Arroyo , Oral Surgeon
There are many people with metal plates that get dental implants and do just fine. The only difference is that the person who places the implant should be to avoid damaging or placing the implant too close the plate during the dental implant surgery.
Metal plates should not be a contraindication for implant placement but they might be challenging if they are placed in the exact location where an Implant needs to be placed as well. However, this typically arrises in a single implant treatment. CT scans are very important to evaluate this area and to make a precise guide for implant placement avoiding the plate. Best of Luck to you!
You can have implants placed on your lower jaw depending on the location of the plate and if it does not interfere with implant location you can get implants.
HelloA 3D scan would need to be taken. Most often plates are placed because of a fractured jawbone . Having a plate is not a contra-indication it just means the surgeon has to plan a path that will avoid the plate. Wishing you all the bestDr J
It depends. One of the routine examinations that we do is a CT scan so we can see the aspects of the jaw that cannot be normally seen with a 2 dimensional films such as a panoramic film. A 3D scan allows us to visualize where the plate is positioned and we can also perform a virtual surgery to determine whether implants can be placed in the appropriate restorative positions and at the same time not interfere with your plate. Every case is different so don't assume that you cannot have the treatment until you have an exam with a periodontist.
Hello,More likely than not, it would be possible to give you a more permanent solution with dental implants. The main considerations would be whether or not you have sufficient bone to support the implants and if the implant can be placed to avoid the metal plate. If your jaw does not have enough bone, you can have a bone graft procedure done to increase the volume and density of support available. In order to properly diagnose and treat, however, some 3D imaging, such as a CT scan, would be beneficial. This would help in avoiding the plate during placement of the implant.
