How long does an All-on-4 denture implant last, in years?

Question

Can I wear the same set of all on four dentures for the rest of my life if I brush and floss? I do not want to have to get a new set. I heard it last less than 10 years.

There are several factors that will affect the longevity of every dental implant case.
Some of this area:
1-Hygiene habit of the pt. (Frequency of brushing,flossing and water pick)
2-Use of alcohol (how frequent) and smoking.
3- Hereditary factors (medical conditions)
4- Type of diet 
The materials use to finish the All on four case Will also affect the longevity at least of the prosthesis.
1- Plastic teeth and acrylic dentures will wear out quicker depending what it opposes, if it opposes natural teeth, zirconia, porcelain they will wear out quicker. If similar materials are used zirconia vs. zirconia this will last many years as this material is extremely durable.
2- Type of diet will also cause plastic teeth to wear faster as well.
We typically give our patients a occlusal guard to further protect the prosthesis and the implants as well.

Your typical set of teeth on an all-on-4 is made of plastic teeth held together on a titanium bar with pink acrylic.   These typically last 5-8 years and may experience tooth material fractures, natural wear depending on what they are opposing and popping out of the teeth.   There are other materials that carry a longer prosthesis service time as the prosthesis is made of a solid piece of ceramic.  These ceramic prosthesis are more dorable in terms of fracture chipping and wear but require a meticulous bite as the material is so strong any design issues are translated as overload on implants.To read more about ceramic restorations visit our site.Best of luck

How long it lasts depends on a number of things

1. Cleaning and looking after them

2. If you wear a night guard - inevitably you will put more force on your teeth

3. Material used to fabricate the teeth - Zirconia is the strongest and may last longer

You should be prepared for some complications of a period of time such as teeth chipping and breakage. The restoration will be designed to be retrievable so these problems can readily be fixed.

Unfortunately nothing a dentist will do will last forever since the mouth is such a torrid environment

The longevity of any implant treatment is highly dependent on the bite design, chewing forces, accuracy and precision of the treatment provided, patient's home care regimen, health, and professional care and follow up. While the implants themselves may remain functional and healthy for long time, perhaps even lifetime providing all negative factors are controlled, the prosthesis itself may require to be changed periodically. If you require to NEVER fix/replace anything in dentistry, you will be disappointed.  Many things last a very long time, but nothing is permanent.  The average for an All on Four hybrid denture is 10 years, but some last much longer than that.  If it is made out of Prettau Zirconia, it may last longer, but more hybrids are made of acrylic.  Over time the porosity can acquire a taste/smell that requires replacement, so be sure to choose a material that lasts.
