Is it safe to have Botox treatment whilst on Nitrofurantoin for urine Infection?

I am due to have Botox on tuesday and am currently taking Nitrofurantoin for a urine infection. Will it be safe to have the treatment and will it work correctly as i don't finish the antibiotics until Thursday?

Thank you for your question. Your Botox treatment should not interfere with your anabiotic's or vice a versa. If you are having an active infection, however, it may be wise to wait until it fully clears before doing any additional procedure that penetrates the skin, especially if you're having symptoms such as fevers or chills.

Generally speaking Botox should not be used is there is infection in the treatment areas (such facial infection). There should not be a problem when the infection is in the distant part of the body (such as bladder infections).Please consult your own doctor first prior to proceeding with your next treatment.

There aren't any known interactions between Nitrofurantoin and Botox injections, so it should be safe for you to keep your appointment.  There shouldn't be any difference in the effectiveness of the Nitrofurantoin, and likewise, there shouldn't be any difference in the cosmetic effect or duration of effect of the Botox injections.

Thanks for your question. Discuss this with your physician injector before you are treated to make sure they don't have a problem with it.  In my practice, this would not be an issue at all and I would tell my own patient that their antibiotic should not have an effect on Botox safety or efficacy. Best of luck to you!
