I'm 66 and in good health other than my weight. I had a r-n-y in 2000. Lost 125 pounds. Been at 220 for about. 12 years. Can I still have these procedures? I was told not after 60.
Answer: Should You Get a Panniculectomy Now or Wait for a Tummy Tuck? Thank you for your question, and congratulations on your 125-pound weight loss! I recommend that you aim to get down to your desired weight before considering surgery. Once you’ve achieved your goal weight, it would be best to go straight for a tummy tuck rather than a panniculectomy first, so you can avoid going through two recoveries. A tummy tuck will provide more comprehensive results by removing the excess skin and tightening your abdominal muscles, giving you the flat and contoured look you're hoping for. If you’re finding it difficult to lose the additional weight on your own, there are new weight loss medications such as Ozempic or Wegovy that have been very effective in helping patients reach their weight goals. I recommend discussing these options with your primary care physician to see if they’re right for you. Getting to your target weight before surgery will help ensure the best possible results and avoid multiple surgeries. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Can you have a panniculectomy then have a TT? You may be offered a panniculectomy with the option of aesthetic abdominoplasty after further weight loss. Your age would not prevent you from having the surgery. Your overall health status is more important.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: "Age is just a number" --and not itself a contraindication to surgery Hello, Thank you for your question and congratulations on your impressive weight loss. As my colleagues have pointed out, age itself is not typically a reason one cannot undergo surgery. Rather overall health and various risk factors are important when considering elective surgery such as abdominoplasty (i.e. tummy tuck.) Whether a tummy tuck, panniculectomy, or both is the right choice for you depends on your anatomy. I recommend you consult with a plastic or cosmetic surgeon to determine the treatment plan that will give you optimal results. Best regards, Dr. Moein

Answer: Surgery after weight loss Thank you so much for your questions. Yes there is nothing that would prevent you having a tummy tuck after a panniculectomy. However, if you are an appropriate candidate I would recommend just having the tummy tuck and avoiding an additional exposure to anesthesia if that is ultimately the surgery you want. There are no absolute age restrictions on surgery - your overall health and physiologic status is much more important.

Answer: Tummy tuck with panniculectomy Hello and thank you for your question . Typically , the panniculectomy and tummy tuck are performed at the same time. If you are healthy enough for the surgery it is much easier to have them combined then seperate.
