Can I use Collagen Moisturizer the day after Microneedling?

Question

The dr that did my microneedling (SkinPen at 2.5mm) said not to use my Equate Collagen Moisturizer or Equate Regenerating serum OR pure vitamin E that I had bought in preparation of this for at least 3 days following the treatment. Why is this? Can I use any of these products? Thanks!

Ronmore, I would always heed the post treatment advice of your physician.  Post procedure, the skin can become very irritated if not tended to properly, causing undesirable side effects. Some products can contain scents, chemicals, etc which would impede the healing process.  Depending on your skin, your normal regimen can typically be resumed 5-7 days post procedure.  Good luck!

Follow the instructions of your provider.  2.5mm is a deep treatment. Your skin is in the healing process now and you shouldn’t add anything that could irritate it.  We recommend only using our post care kit for 5 days. These are all gentle products that aid in healing. Best of luck to you.

I recommend following up with your Doctor about after care and skin care recommendations. We suggest all patients follow up with facials like Silk Peel Dermalinfusuion to hydrate, exfoliate and provide the skin with antioxidants. Sun protection is also essential. I always combine microneedling with prp and lasers to get the best outcomes. We do treatments every 3-6 weeks. Best, Dr. Emer

It is very important to follow your post treatment instructions. After microneedling patients skin can become irritated very easily which in turn can cause unnecessary side effects. In our practice we recommend nothing but a Growth factor serum for 5 day (we provide to the patient), after 24 hours a mild moisturizer like CeraVe and sunscreen can be added. Normal regiment is not resumed for 5-7 days depending on the patient. OTC products can have additives that can irritate the skin and cause avoidable side effects.

It is important to follow the instructions your doctor gave you. After microneedling your skin is dry and sensitive and using products with ingredients that could possibly irritate the skin is not recommended. In my practice I instruct my patients to use a non-acidic vitamin C serum and sun block. In two or three days one can resume the preferred skin care regime.Love your skin.

Hi ronmore, The day after microneedling, your skin is pretty sensitive and do follow your Provider's instructions. I like using Cerave. You can resume using Sunblock a day after and mild skincare on your third day onwards. Patients often report being sensitive to cosmeceuticals they had used in the past. It's not a good idea to use products you hadn't used in the past.
