Follow up: 48 hours ago I had 8-12 units of Botox in upper forehead. Is that a conservative amount for upper forehead?

8-12 units of botox is conservative amount  but it all depends on the placement of the botox in the forehead area. If the product was injected closer to the brows then in the upper forehead you will feel heaviness and drooping of the eye lid.  It sounds like this is what has happened to you.  I would return to your injector after 2 weeks and express your concerns. Sometimes if you get your frown lines injected it will balance out the treatment and slightly lift your brows.  Botox will wear off in 3-4 months. 

The results of Botox usually lasts 3-4 full months when the proper amount of units were injected, 10 units is a very conservative amount, the results should last less time, about 8 weeks or so 

That is a reasonable dose for the forehead.  If the injections were too close to the brows, they can cause the heavy and sad results you are describing.

Hi Tessa.  With a conservative does like that, you should start to see improvement after 4-6 weeks.  The drooping improves before the Botox wears off completely.  As an option, we often inject patients from other practices that have ptosis (eyebrow droop) by relaxing the depressor muscle (as Dr. Clark has pointed out).  This injection often counteracts the heaviness you are experiencing and can sometimes resolve the issue immediately.  If you are not comfortable seeking the help of the same injector, then reach out to a new injector for a second opinion.

Wait 2 weeks to decide what the final outcome will be.  If you are concerned, seek another experts advice.  8-12 units is conservative, however, it is all how and where it is placed that makes the difference.  I suggest giving it a few more days and then if you are still concerned seeking a second opinion.  The botox can take 3-4 months to wear off, but most people who get this type of result feel better about it 4-6 weeks later.  I am sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately the effects of Botox are there to stay until your body can  regenerate the nerve cell terminals where the nerve cell and muscles communicate.  This takes about 3 months.  Rest assured the effects of Botox will wear off with time.

If the product was not placed correctly it could cause drooping (ptosis) of the eyelids and can cause the brow arch to change shape. Unfortunately it will not wear off faster if you only get a small amount, Botox will last for about 3 months. Once the product wears off your face will go back to where it was. 8-10 units is a conservative dose. The location of where Botox is injected is a very important factor, as injections that are too close to the eyebrows in certain areas can cause ptosis, or heaviness of the eyelids. Latent dermatochalasis can also be unmasked by Botox. Dermatochalasis is an underlying weakness in the connective tissue supporting the eyelid, which causes heavy lids. There is a certain subset of people with latent dermatochalasis in which the excess tissue/weakness of the eyelids is hidden by the activity of the forehead muscles contracting and holding up the eyelids into a normal position; when the forehead muscles are weakened by Botox, they can no longer hold the eyelids in a normal position and heavy lids/hooding is a result. Your doctor can perform certain maneuvers to determine if you may have this problem prior to injecting Botox in the future. Some patients are not good candidates for Botox. As an alternative, Belotero, which in a fine line hyaluronic acid filler, can be injected superficially into the forehead lines without affecting muscle function.Unfortunately it just takes time for the Botox to wear off, but don't worry, the results are only temporary. Eye drops such as Iopidine can help to stimulate muscles that open the eye. I'm sorry this happened to you! Hang in there, you should start to see some improvement in a few weeks. 

This amount of Botox is conservative, and lower doses do wear off faster.  However, if one has not had the brow depressors treated (the muscles that cause frowning, which include the procerus, the corrugators, and the depressor supercilli), treating these will allow the brows to come back up.If, however, it is actually the eyelids that are drooping (you can tell because the upper eyelid will be lower over your pupil than before), apresoline drops into the eye will lift the lid up again and this can be used until the Botox wears off.
