Gland Removed Without Cutting Areola?

You are correct in that most plastic surgeons will use an incision under the areola to approach glandular tissue during gynecomastia surgery. However, it is possible that with the help of specialized instruments/liposuction surgery, your plastic surgeon was able to remove glandular tissue through a remote incision.

 Ultimately, time will tell as you evaluate the end results of the procedure a few months from now.

If the liposuction performed on the breast is very aggressive, it's possible to remove glandular tissue through a remote incision.  Most surgeons make an incision around the underside of the nipple areola complex, but I've seen other methods. Be sure to keep all postop appointments with your surgeon and ask him or her these same questions.

If you just had your surgery within the last few days it is way too early to judge your result!
Although it is most common to remove the glandular firmer tissue directly through the areolar area (not usually possible with liposuction alone), it is conceivable that a more remote (unusual) approach through the armpit (axillary) region may have been utilized. Both your abdomen and breast are still swollen so difficult to see results at this early stage. Speak witn your plastic surgeon at your next follow up visit.
